Gynecomastia
Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a single-or double-sided excessive enlarged pectoral glands in men. Operation is aimed to reconstruct the correct appearance of chest by removing an excess of glandular and fatty tissue.
PREPARATION TO SURGERY
Before operation it is necessary to conduct an interview with the medical consultant. Medical consultant explains principles of the treatment, its procedure, possible results as well as possible complications. An additional contact with the plastic surgeon is sometimes needed, who will perform the operation. The patient receives consent to undergo surgery. The patient gives consent directly before surgery. After pre-qualification there is held an Anaesthesiological Consultation, during which the doctor shall commission some basic blood and heart examinations (blood type, morphology, ESR, electrocardiography, etc.). Directly before operation the plastic surgeon talks with the patient and he ultimately decides to carry out the treatment.
ANAESTHETIZATION
Gynecomastia surgery is conducted under general anesthesia.
SURGERY PROCEDURE
During operation the surgeon performs an incision around areola nipple and removes excess glandular tissue. If recommended, it is possible also to suck the fatty tissue. Precision and selection of appropriate stitching technique cause that scars are slight and along with time most often become unnoticeable. The treatment lasts about 1.5-2 hours. During operating drains are put on.
If a fatty gynecomastia is the man’s problem, a liposuction is conducted. During treatment performs a small incision on the skin and applies anesthetic liquid. Next the fatty tissue is removed by liposuction. Suck of fatty tissue is conducted with cannula about small diameter. Thanks to that, scars incurred after healing are hardly visible. After the operation a pressure dressing is put on.
STAY IN THE CLINIC
Patient stays in clinic 2 days. In individual cases the hospitalization can last up to 4 days.
POST-SURGERY PROCEDURE
On the first days after operation a pain, swelling, bruising of the skin and general weakness may appear. There are necessary 2-3 visits in the clinic in order to change dressings and remove stitches. It is recommended so that the return to everyday activities was possible after minimum 14 days from convalescence. Treatment effect is visible after about 4 weeks. Total healing of wounds can last up to 3 months. Sporting is recommended after 3 months. Tanning is possible after 6 months.
CHECK-UPS
If it is possible, patients report to check-ups after 6 weeks and 6 months after surgery.
